Find cities with map shortcuts
Use tappable city abbreviations, full names and pin confirmation in GeoArcade.
What the short labels do
GeoArcade displays short city labels on the map to make selecting a location easier. Tap a label to choose that city's position. These short forms are interface shortcuts, not a list of answers or an official naming system. The same abbreviation can refer to more than one city, so check the surrounding country and coastline.
Reveal the full name
Zoom closer to see full city names. If a short label is unclear, zoom in before selecting it. Labels are spaced to keep the map usable, and more cities become visible at different zoom levels. A city that is not labeled can still be selected by placing a pin directly on the map.
Keep control of your submission
With the default single-tap setting, choosing a city label submits the guess. If you prefer to check or adjust it, enable Confirm location before locking in before choosing your location. Then use Lock it in only after you are satisfied with the pin.
Use the map when a label is crowded
Move or zoom the map to separate nearby labels. You can also tap an unlabeled spot instead of a city shortcut. The shortcuts offer a convenient city position; they do not prevent you from choosing another location. Take care when looking at a dense metropolitan area, where several nearby cities may be visible.
Shortcuts support exploration
City labels come from a general map dataset independently of the current question. They do not highlight the correct city. Use them with the clue and your own reasoning, then compare the answer reveal with your selection. If you notice a missing or misplaced label, send the city and country through Contact.
